¡Hola amigos! On día 57 I flew into Bilbao, Spain and Ubered to the middle of the city. I met up with a childhood friend who flew in from Paris, France. We metroed to Gorliz where our airbnb was located. We stopped at a local cafe to use the bathroom and got to talk to some locals. We hiked 30 minutes in the rain over to Barrika surf camp, and by the time we got there we felt like we had already jumped in the water. We knocked on the door and talked to a lady who lives in the building who said she didn’t know where our surf instructor was.
When we realized that surfing was not going to happen, we headed over to a nearby restaurant. We got a glass of wine and chatted for a while. We were hungry so went to another restaurant that wasn’t as fancy and got some food and drinks. We had no plan to waste the day so we went down to the beach in the wind and rain and enjoyed the view. We ran into the waves and quickly realized why no one else was at the beach – the water felt like an ice bath. Once we had our fun in the water and were shaking from the cold we hiked back up to the same restaurant to warm up. We walked to the bus to take us to our airbnb in Gorliz. When we arrived we took hot showers and a nap. We got ready and went to the main city to a bar called Alambique and talked for hours. When we left, we got kebabs and went to sleep.
On día 58 we go ready and hit the town. We got acai bowls for breakfast at ARVO Coffee. We did some window shopping and saw the old town of Casco Viejo. Before we had to head to the airport we stopped at Plaza restaurant. We sat on the terrace, people watched, and enjoyed some tapas.
We separated and I got on a bus to the airport and she got on a 13 hour bus ride back to Paris. I got to the airport 3 hours early, took a nap on a bench, and left back to Barcelona.
¡Bilbao fue muy divertido, ¡pero espero visitarlo cuando haga más calor y pueda surfear!
