Orientation – Días 5-8

¡Hola amigos! If you read día 3 & 4 you know that I moved into my new home for the next 4 months. I love my host mom and her dog Tato. The apartment is starting to feel cozier each day.

On día 5 I had orientation for school. It was nice to hear about what the teachers expect from us and start to get into the swing of things.

Straight from orientation I met up with two of my friends. We took the metro to Park Güell. Where the metro dropped us off still left us another half mile to walk to the park. It felt like we were walking on a vertical sidewalk most of the way. Once we got to the top it was 5pm and they close at 5:30pm, so we decided not to pay the fee to get in that day, but we’ll definitely be back. There was still a beautiful view without going in though.

We stopped at the adorable Cafe Milano and I got an odd looking empanada. It looked like a piece of pie, but tasted like a regular empanada.

On our way home there was a performer that came in the Metro and sang a song for everyone. We gave him a few euros and got off to head home.

The next few days we had a class here and there, but our full schedule starts next week. I did a lot of wandering around the city with Lia and ate a lot of good food. Our homestay mom is also a fabulous cook so we get to come home for dinner every night with her!

On día 7 we went to Ohla Barcelona, which is a beautiful rooftop bar. We got a pitcher of sangria to share and enjoyed the view. Later on we stopped to get some tapas. We shared fried eggplant sticks, patatas bravas, and tomato bread. At night we visited Lemur on Fire for a quick drink and Le Cyrano.

On día 8 I woke up sick unfortunately. Lia was sick for a few days and we live in such close quarters that it was inevitable. I still made the best of the day and met up with friends at Mercat de la Boqueria. It has tons of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and other delicious things.

Lia and I went to a restaurant called La Selva where everything looked like a jungle. They had some tables you could sit on swings and eat and there were plants everywhere. We got flank steak to share with some tapas and they brought out a hot plate for us to cook it longer if we wanted. We walked around the city for a bit until we landed on a bar called Raval. We met some girls from Norway who were really nice and the bar was really neat!

¡Estoy aprendiendo a disfrutar de todo lo que Barcelona tiene para ofrecer!
